Bayswater Station Project | GRP Permanent Formwork Solutions by Permadec

Project Description

Permadec supplied GRP permanent formwork for the Bayswater Station METRONET project in Perth, Western Australia. The formwork was custom-designed to meet both the structural and architectural needs of the elevated station.

The project was delivered in collaboration with the Public Transport Authority of WA, BG&E, and the Evolve Bayswater Alliance (Coleman Rail & Acciona). Working closely with the project team, Permadec delivered GRP panels for four major structures. As a result, the installation process was simplified and construction time reduced.

SCOPE OF WORK

Custom Panel Design
Permadec provided three GRP panel types (5B.8, 6B, and 7B). These were designed to accommodate clear spans of 3.2 m, 3.6 m, and 4.425 m, ensuring flexibility across various parts of the structure.

Structural Integration
Each panel aligned precisely with the elevated framework. Consequently, installation was smooth, with minimal on-site adjustments required.

Colour Matching
To maintain a consistent aesthetic, Permadec manufactured all GRP panels in RAL1013 PEARLWISE (Pearl White). This colour matched the station's headstocks and ensured visual cohesion across the project.

PROJECT IMPACT

The upgraded Bayswater Station will become one of Perth’s largest, featuring four platforms (two islands). It will improve access to the Midland Line, Forrestfield-Airport Link, and Morley-Ellenbrook Line.

Importantly, the station will serve as a key transport hub for Perth’s north-eastern suburbs. Upon completion, it will be the second-largest station on the Transperth network.

Permadec’s detailed design work, colour coordination, and innovative panel solutions contributed to the project's overall success.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Bayswater Station upgrade is a major component of the METRONET programme, Western Australia’s plan to modernise public transport and support future rail extensions.

Permadec supported this work by supplying durable, lightweight GRP formwork engineered for fast, accurate installation.
In addition, Permadec also contributed GRP solutions to the Whiteman Park Station project, further demonstrating our ongoing involvement in METRONET's expansion.
