Project Description:

Permadec was engaged in the Whiteman Park METRONET Rail Viaduct project, working alongside the Public Transport Authority of WA, MELconnx Alliance, Jacobs, and Arup to supply GRP permanent formwork. This innovative formwork solution enhanced onsite efficiency, streamlined installation, and provided a value-engineered approach to the construction process.

Scope of Work

  • Custom Panel Design: Permadec supplied special type 5B.8 panels, engineered to accommodate large spans and facilitate easy installation through integrated lifting holes.
  • Penetration Cut-outs for Efficiency: The panels were bespoke-designed with pre-installed cut-outs for penetrations, reducing the need for modifications during installation and significantly improving efficiency.
  • Value-Engineered Solution: Permadec collaborated with the design team and contractors to optimise the formwork, ensuring a cost-effective and streamlined construction process.

Project Benefits

  • Rapid Installation: Pre-engineered cut-outs for penetrations allowed for faster on-site assembly.
  • Reduced Labour and Costs: The lightweight nature of the GRP formwork minimised the need for heavy lifting equipment.

Project Impact

The new Whiteman Park Station will be a key transport hub on the Morley-Ellenbrook Line, servicing over 32,000 residents by 2036. With a 25-minute journey to Perth CBD, the station will cut travel times by 20 minutes compared to existing bus routes, enhancing connectivity and public transport accessibility.

Through innovative GRP formwork solutions and close collaboration with project partners, Permadec contributed to the successful and efficient delivery of this major METRONET infrastructure project.
